Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is one of Milan’s iconic landmarks, located next to the Duomo, and is often referred to as the “living room of Milan.” This luxurious shopping arcade was built between 1865 and 1877 and named after the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. The gallery blends magnificent architectural art with a modern fashion atmosphere, making it a classic symbol of Milan.

The entire arcade features a glass dome, creating a bright and transparent space when sunlight pours through. The floor is made of marble mosaics, forming intricate patterns that create a strong artistic ambiance. Not only is it a shopping paradise, but it’s also an ideal place for travellers seeking a fusion of fashion and art.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II Review / Experience

To be honest, I almost skipped Milan entirely. My logic was simple: "I'm not into luxury shopping, so why bother?" I only ended up here because the journey from Cinque Terre to Venice was too long, making Milan a necessary logistical stopover. After visiting the Duomo, I wandered into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II next door with a "just looking" attitude.

As it turns out, I lied to myself. Even if you manage to resist the allure of LV or Gucci, it is incredibly hard to say no to Marchesi 1824. This historic patisserie, owned by the Prada Group, offers a taste of luxury that doesn't require a second mortgage. Sitting by the window on the first floor with a coffee and a pastry, watching the stylish crowd below, was honestly more satisfying than buying a designer bag.

I also stumbled upon the ultimate travel hack for couples: the Ferrari Flagship Store.

It’s located just outside the Galleria, and it serves as the perfect "Husband Daycare." The Michael Schumacher F1 car suspended in the atrium is enough to keep any car enthusiast occupied for ages. You can safely "park" your partner there, ensuring they remain happy and complaint-free while you head back into the Galleria to focus on your shopping. It’s a win-win situation!
