Anfield Matchday Experience | How to Get Tickets & What to Expect

Last Updated on 06/05/2025

Watching a match at Anfield is definitely one of the must-do experiences for any Liverpool fan! But how do you buy tickets for an English Premier League match? Which seating option should you choose? Is the Premium ticket price worth it? And if you can’t get a Premier League ticket, is it still worth attending a friendly match? In this article, I’ll share my personal experiences and insights on these questions.

Anfield Matchday: 60,000 Fans Never Walk Alone

As a Liverpool fan, I watched two matches at Anfield during the 24/25 season — a pre-season friendly against Sevilla and the Boxing Day Premier League match against Leicester City (Boxing Day champions eventually became the champions!!!). The electrifying experience of being there in person is truly beyond words. My next goal is to watch a Champions League match at home!

Pre-Season Friendly|Liverpool vs Sevilla

My first match at Anfield was a pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

Although it wasn’t as intense as a Premier League fixture, the stadium was still packed, and fans were full of energy. The singing and cheering never stopped — you could feel the passion of Anfield in every moment.

For any first-time visitor, this match gave me a true sense of what “You’ll Never Walk Alone” really means.

We arrived two hours before kickoff and were instantly surrounded by a sea of red. Street vendors were out selling scarves and souvenirs — I always like to get a special-edition scarf printed with both teams’ names, as a memento from the day.

Inside the stadium, the crowd roared as You’ll Never Walk Alone echoed through the stands. Chants and cheers from every corner made for a deafening, exhilarating experience. Words can’t do it justice — every football fan should watch a Premier League match in person at least once.

How to Get Liverpool Match Tickets

Premier League tickets for Liverpool home matches at Anfield are in extremely high demand — especially for high-profile clashes like those against Manchester United or Arsenal. Many fixtures sell out months in advance and are snapped up within seconds. To avoid disappointment, it’s best to plan early and understand the main ways to secure a ticket:

Official website

The most secure way to buy tickets is via the official Liverpool FC website , but you’ll need to become a paid member (LFC Official Membership) to access priority sales. If you’re booking two or more tickets, your companions will also need to be members.

Tickets are released in two major windows each season - July: first half of the season; November: second half of the season.

Members can register interest in multiple matches during these sales periods. However, registering doesn’t guarantee ticket allocation. I wasn’t successful during the second-half release for the 24/25 season.

If you miss these main sales, there may be a small batch of tickets released a few weeks before each match — but availability is very limited.

For popular fixtures like Manchester United or Arsenal, a loyalty-based system applies. Only members with a record of attending specific numbers of matches from the previous season are eligible to enter the ballot or purchase. (I haven’t qualified yet!) Even if you’re a member, without the required history, you won’t be able to enter these ballots. First-time buyers have a better chance with lower-profile matches.

Seating Tip

The Kop offers the most passionate atmosphere — ideal for die-hard fans. Lower rows in the Main Stand are closest to the coaching staff and players. For the final home match of 24/25 against Crystal Palace, seats in blocks L5 and L6 reached over £9,000 on resale sites!

Hospitality Packages

If you’re unable to join the members’ sale or want to avoid the risk of resale or touts, you can consider official or trusted travel agencies offering Anfield Matchday Hospitality Packages . These are more expensive but offer peace of mind and a premium experience, often including:

  • Guaranteed official match ticket
  • Hotel accommodation or dedicated transport
  • Optional stadium tour before matchday
  • Premium seating (Main Stand, VIP boxes)
  • Food and drink (wine, buffet, snacks)

lthough the price is higher, the service is reliable—perfect for fans who don’t live in Liverpool or can’t wait around for the ballot. If you’re only in the UK for a short time and want to attend a specific match, these packages are a practical option.

Official Resale Platform

Liverpool FC also runs an official resale platform, where members who can’t attend a match can list their tickets. This option is only available to members, and listings are typically limited, often appearing closer to matchday.
